Nedslag i Danmarkshistorien 1. Verdenskrig

Området syd for Kongeåen var frem til 1920 en del af Tyskland. Da Tyskland i 1914 gik ind i 1. verdenskrig måtte borgere i det daværende Slesvig - det vi i dag kalder Sønderjylland drage i krig som tyske soldater. 

De dansksindede sønderjyder måtte derfor drage i krig for en sag og en krigsherre, som de ikke sympatiserede med. Alternativet var værre: man mistede retten til at arve familiens gård. Både for soldaterne og for dem derhjemme var 1. Verdenskrig en dramatisk tid, som i dag tydeligst opleves ved mindesten i og ved kirkerne syd for Kongeåen. Der var ikke krigshandlinger i Sønderjylland og ved Kongeåen.
